What is the UNM Daniel's Fund College Readiness Program?

The University of New Mexico – Daniel's College Readiness Program begins with a parent/student orientation during the 2008 spring semester of a student’s junior year in high school, extending into the summer for a six-day residential program, and concluding with a series of senior seminars during the student’s senior year of high school.

The seminars are designed to help promising young adults with demonstrated financial need to prepare for college, explore college possibilities, and understand the college application process. By making the college application process understandable and financial application process accessible, this program is piloted with an emphasis on earning a college degree. Orientation, the summer residential program, and seminars are held on the UNM main campus.

Who Can Attend?

The UNM Daniel's College Readiness Program is a financially need based program. However, students’ past academic performance and/or proven academic potential will be taken into consideration for the selection process. Rather than focusing exclusively on past academic success, the UNM Daniel's College Prep Program seeks to invest in students who demonstrate:

• Financial need (Pell Grant eligibility);
• Academic performance or promise;
• Strength of character, evidence of leadership potential, and emotional maturity and stability;
• Well-rounded personality, abilities, and broad interests; and
• The potential to contribute to one’s community later in life.

How Do I Apply?

Complete and return the UNM Daniel's Fund College Readiness application and recommendation Letters (from an educational leader and community member). Applications can be downloaded below. All materials must be received by April 22, 2008 and must be postmarked no later than April 19, 2008.
